Abstract:
The time synchronization service has become an integral part of sensor network platforms and a lot of resources have been devoted to make it stable and more precise. While recent work improved the per-hop accuracy for long multi-hop networks, it seems that the overall mean accuracy has not been improving below about 1.5us, and low-power high-accuracy time synchronization at that level has been missing altogether. In this paper, we will present two key technologies, Temperature Compensated Time Synchronization, and Virtual High-resolution Time, that allow a 10x improvement in average power draw for duty-cycles <0.1% at a synchronization accuracy of <1us.
